The Women’s Ministry Team for 2008-09 has focused on mentoring within the body of women who attend our church. We desire to offer support to our young women. Timothy notes that the older women are to teach the younger women. One way of teaching that we chose is to provide recipes to our young working women through a recipe exchange night.
Our first recipe exchange was attended by about 14 women. We each prepared a dish that was nutritious, easy to fix and inexpensive. We then brought copies of the recipe to be placed by the dish. (The recipe on Page 3 is one of those we sampled.)
The result was good food, great fellowship and an expanded recipe library for each of us.
Another recipe-sharing night will be scheduled early next year.
Another activity is the continuation of our Women’s Bible Study each Thursday night at Jan Norton’s home. We have been studying Joyce Meyer’s book, Reduce Me to Love.
Rich in scripture and insights that put our feet to our beliefs, the book is teaching us that encouraging one another is an act of love and that the greatest weapon in our arsenal is love. Love is not wimpy — we are to speak the truth in love. And remember — God’s Word is truth.
The greatest blessing to our Bible study is the fact that bonds of love are intertwining us to one another. This helps each of us to walk with confidence each day. We are encouraged by each other, loved by each other, and we have a deep inner knowledge that love never fails!
Another way we want to encourage and love each other is the revitalization of our Secret Sisters Program by Eva Norton. Names will be drawn and each of us will pray for and leave cards or small gifts for the person whose name we have drawn for a year.
See Eva if you would like to be part of this group. Encouraging one another does not mean spending lots of money! It means spending lots of love!
Eva will set a meeting to discuss parameters, pass out and collect information sheets and get everyone’s input before we begin. Don’t miss out!
And finally, our Ladies’ Tea is scheduled for April 19. This event was a lot of fun last year. Women decorated tables with their own tableware, and we voted for winners in several categories.
Please contact Barbara Pera, Nancy Straub or Karen Stacy if you are interested in helping plan and execute this FUN event!
Sharon Norton is organizing a canned food drive. It will begin November 2. Please bring canned items, rice, beans and other non-perishables to church. There will be a box in the foyer for deposit of food items. Sharon will make sure that all items are delivered to the food banks.
Thanks, Sharon, for your BIG heart and acts of love!
