Thanksgiving Dinner 2008

This year’s annual Thanksgiving dinner was quite different from previous years.

Instead of being held on a Sunday evening, this year the Women’s Group held it immediately after our worship gathering on November 1.

The reason for this was to accommodate those who have to travel from out of town to get to church. Instead of making two trips in one weekend like in other years, this year our out-of-town members were able to enjoy both church and Thanksgiving food and fellowship all in one travel!

Another benefit to this year’s Sabbath Thanksgiving meal was the extra attendance in our worship service.

It is not unusual to have many guests at our Thanksgiving dinners, but this year those extra guests also were able to participate in worship.

It was great to have so many new attendees as well as many familiar faces that we don’t get to see very often!

The Women’s Group was responsible for this occasion under the leadership of several hardworking ladies. A HUGE thank you is owed to them. They know who they are! ☺

During the week prior to the Thanksgiving meal these women did plenty of grocery shopping at Costco and also picked up the delicious turkey that was provided by A Touch of Mesquite Catering.

It was wonderful to see so many people work together to make this event a success, from those involved in decorating to the young people who served coffee, plates and yummy pumpkin pie. Thanks to each of you!

Since the actual Thanksgiving Day is not until November 27, I would like to encourage each of you to not wait until that one day to be thankful but to make November a whole month dedicated to thankfulness.

Despite the hardships and struggles we face daily, we are incredibly blessed by a loving and faithful God.

No struggle or challenge is too great for Him, and no hardship can take Him from us.

With this knowledge, choose to live your every day with gratitude and praise in your heart for the hope He has freely given to you.

Perhaps in one month such an attitude can become a lifelong habit!

Personally, I thank the Lord for each of you and the family that you are to me!

God bless and Happy Thanksgiving!

My cousin, who lives in Sacramento, calls it “Devil Weed.” This “weed” is known as Creeping Bedstraw and is very common here in the foothills. It is invasive, and because its leaves are sticky, it clings to your shoes when you brush up against it.
